Dear MARMAM community,

The Society for Marine Mammalogy Communications Committee is currently
working on a feature piece highlighting the experiences of parents and
caregivers in marine mammal science.

The aim of this piece is to bring visibility to the diverse realities,
challenges, and opportunities involved in balancing research, fieldwork,
travel, and caregiving within our community, across career stages, family
structures, identities, and lived experiences. The final article will be
published in three parts and will weave together quotes and reflections
from several researchers in order to encourage understanding, connection,
and broader conversations about support, inclusion, and care in our field.

To help ensure a wide range of perspectives are represented, we are
especially hoping to hear from people who may be underrepresented or whose
caregiving experiences are less often visible, including:

   - Someone who became a parent during their undergraduate or Master’s
   studies,
   - An Indigenous researcher who is also a parent or caregiver,
   - Someone who is a caregiver to a family member or loved one (for
example a parent, sibling, partner, or other relative), whether or not they
   are also a parent.

If you see yourself in any of these descriptions we would be very grateful
to hear from you.

Participation involves completing a short interview-style questionnaire
(approximately 30 minutes). You are welcome to answer in as much or as
little detail as you wish. Quotes may be used in the final article, and we
will always check with you before publication if any editing is needed for
clarity or length.

If you are interested in participating, or if you would like to suggest
someone else who might be interested, please feel free to contact us either
via any of the Society for Marine Mammalogy social media platforms, or by
email at [email protected].

Thank you very much for considering sharing your experience, we recognize
that this is personal, and we deeply appreciate your time, trust, and
openness.

With gratitude,
Anaïs Remili, PhD
Chair, Communications Committee
