Hi all:

My name is Shambhu Paudel, and I have been conducting research on the
Ganges River Dolphin (GRD) in Nepal for nearly 18 years and completed my
PhD on Ganges River Dolphin ecology and conservation at the University of
Arizona.

I am pleased to share that I recently secured a three-year internationally
funded research grant to implement a Ganges River Dolphin conservation
project in Nepal. The primary objective of this project is to bridge the
gap between science and policy by generating robust information on dolphin
population status, habitat conditions, and health indicators using
innovative drone-based monitoring technologies.

To successfully implement this project, I am seeking collaboration with a
university professor who would be interested in jointly supervising a PhD
student. The student would work under both our guidance and play a central
role in project implementation and research activities in Nepal.

The project funding will fully cover all field research expenses, including
equipment, field operations, accommodation, and other project-related costs
during data collection in Nepal. I am seeking institutional support
primarily for:

A graduate student stipend (approximately USD 550 per month while student
is in Nepal for data collection for at least 2 years);
Teaching Assistantship (TA) or Research Assistantship (RA) support when the
student transitions to the university to complete coursework, data
analysis, dissertation writing, and degree requirements.

The envisioned structure is that the student would spend a substantial
portion of the project period conducting fieldwork in Nepal (first 2 to 2.5
years), followed by residence at the host university for coursework
completion and dissertation development. This arrangement provides a unique
opportunity for a student to engage in a well-funded, high-impact
conservation research project with strong implications for freshwater
biodiversity conservation and policy development in South Asia.

If this opportunity aligns with your research interests and graduate
program, I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to discuss the project
further and explore potential collaboration. If you would like to know more
further details about the project, please let me know by the end of
September 2026 at the following email address:
