The 'version' and 'versioncheck' martservice queries are no longer part of the BioMart 0.6 documentation. Is their use deprecated?

David, does Taverna depend on these versions in some way ?

Taverna uses the version to know how to interpret the configuration files, e.g. a 0.4 dataset configuration uses a different referencing mechanism to 0.5.

The version is also used to set the softwareVersion (datasetConfigVersion) attribute of the query and to determine the format of the query.

One problem I have is that taverna lets the users save a biomart query and then run it again at a later date. If the query format expected by the martservice changes then the query may no longer run.

Another problem is that taverna can use any biomart installation; a 0.4 version doesn't work if you sent it 0.5 style queries.

David.
