This is going to sound obvious but it's worth checking to see if the
machine actually has a 64-bit version of expat installed?
I hacked the Makefile in the end and it seemed to work.
At least the compilation and linking finished without
reporting any errors. Now I am having grief with
compiling mod_perl, it bombs when it tries to create
mod_perl.so:
/usr/local/lib/perl5/5.8.8/x86_64-linux/auto/DynaLoader/DynaLoader.a:
could not read symbols: Bad value
Only the vulture knows what that means.
