Bioinformatician

This position represents an exciting opportunity to contribute to the
development of the Bioinformatics Infrastructure for the Breast Cancer
Campaign Tissue Bank (BCCTB) working closely with the BCCTB leading centres
in breast cancer research. The successful candidate will be responsible for
designing, developing and enhancing components of this unique integrative
bioinformatics model with a back-end Tissue Bank resource.

Applicants should have a PhD degree in Bioinformatics or Computational
Biology, a solid understanding and experience in the analysis and management
of high throughput data. A high level of expertise in the use of relational
databases, in particular MySQL, is essential. Experience in molecular
biology or breast cancer research is also essential. Experience in using the
BioMart technology is highly desirable.

The successful candidate must be expert in the programming language Perl.
Experience of additional languages, e.g. Java or C, would be highly
desirable. Familiarity with Linux network/server administration and web
application development technologies will be an advantage. Working mainly
with BioMart, the successful candidate will be expected to address
bioinformatics needs related to the design and development of the
Bioinformatics Infrastructure of BCCTB. The successful candidate will
additionally be responsible for breast cancer literature data curation,
release cycles as well as the wider development and extension of this
platform.

It is also essential that the candidate has clear communication skills, with
the ability to present methodologies and results succinctly and to provide
advice, training and support for researchers.

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for 3 years.

Starting salary will be in the range £30,079 - £37,332 per annum with the
possibility to increment to £39,430 per annum inclusive of London Allowance
depending on experience.

The benefits package for this post includes 30 days annual leave, final
salary pension scheme and an interest free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK
in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where
required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under
the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
