On the "real danger" of fascism, I didn't comment. I am saying there isn't the
original form of fascism in imperialist countries today, but that doesn't mean it
couldn't arise. For example, Newt Gingrich and his gang raised some of that concern.
To the extent that imperialism has changed, it hasn't lost its potential for turning
to fascism anywhere. But there are no worker/communist threats to take power in the
imperialist countries today, so they aren't desparate as in the 20's and 30's. Bob ,
when I say something about today, you shouldn't interpret me to mean things can't
change.

Also, your absolute anti-nationalist line is not Marxist. As explained to you often,
the Leninist approach to the national question is mixed in the oppressed nations,
including oppressed nationalities such as African Americans. Leninists see the
bourgeois elements of oppressed nations as playing a role in liberation from
imperialism and colonialism, as in National Liberation Fronts. The fronts consist of
cross class elements. Far from "being led down some wrong road ",most of the socialist
revolutions to date have depended on such fronts. It is the working classes in the
"advanced" countries who have failed to comprehend the Marxist approach, failing to
carryout revolutions, leaving others to socialism in "one country" or poorer
countries. Your position on this illustrates the common error of the twin types of
petit bourgeois revolutionism -ultra-leftism and rightwing socialists. See _Leftwing
Communism: An Infantile Disorder_ by Lenin. For example, the Socialist Party in the !
!
US. in 1920 reduced the national question to the class question , similarly to what
you do here.

Not only that, your denigration of national liberation in oppressed countries unites
with the posture of imperialism itself.

But you are opposed to the U.S. aggression , so ok for now.

I too agree with Jerry foremost and Charlie except when Charlie makes the following
comment...

>
>The configuration of world politics has changed today such that none of the
>imperialist powers has fascism in it domestic polity. The new form of "fascism" has
>the denial of civil liberties in a neo-colony by the comprador bourgeois government
>and with the U.S.'s connection to the neo-colony's comprador bourgeoisie "supplying"
>the imperialist element. But this is a modified form of fascism, with the changing
>times. Perhaps a new term should be developed.

Charlie this "new form" you are talking differs not so much from the American ruling
class buying off a section of blacks in America to devide and rule and keep the poeble
in place. The only difference in third world countries with imperialist frontmen is
more likely to be imbedded in quite repressive regimes and based on nationalism.

When it comes to the ex "marxists" in third world countries they to were led down the
road of building socialism in one country and all kinds of nationalist bullshit which
reflects a lot the reason Yugoslava as well as other countries in the third world see
out the way they do.

But Yugoslavia is special and connected to before Toto, during Tito and after Tito and
the collapse of the SU..

To claim that imperialism has fundamentally changed or that the danger of fascism in
the *real* sense of the term is in the past. Well, I doubt it very much. Sooner or
later the major imperialist powers are going to have to face off one another. The road
to this confrontation can very well take the road of a new fascist bonaparte
dictatorship directed at specific nationalities and naturally all workers
organizations.

It is connected to the deepening cris of this system which can't and never could
provide a way out.

Rob in a sense put it quite eloquent in saying we enter 2000 with another war in the
Balkans. And what is at stake is not only Yugoslavia but in the final analisis a new
world war and redivision of the spoils unless a socialist/communist alternative can be
brought forward to stop this stuff..

Warm regards
Bob Malecki
