His work was interesting in the early 1970s, when the Nixon admin. did so much unilaterally on trade and monetary policies while the US superpower's militarism looked about to be clipped.
But his thoughts have advanced little and he fails to analyze the hard power the US asserts over both its allies/underlings (e.g. Netherlands, Germany, Japan, Italy) and regimes that don't fit into the US hegemonic scheme. Hudson's is a limited analysis of limited use, just as the term 'heterodox economist' might lead you to think. I agree with some of the analysis about US manipulation of Japan and China on trade and monetary issues, but where was he when I was arguing these points on, for example, Duff Henwood's Liberal Bored Observer List, 2001-2003?
