'Is you is or is you ain't my baby" is in the Negro American English dialect from the 1940's or so.
I've always been curious as to whether or what might be the non-joke pun significance of "dialect" and "dialectics". In the context of discussion of the relationship between language and thought, and dialectician Blunden, I wonder is there is a dialectic of dialects.
