How could so many news agencies in the world get their presentation of Crimea so very wrong? Because their reporting is driven by ideology and a political/economic agenda. So what's the excuse of those on the left buying into the thesis of a "Russian annexation" of Crimea--an annexation which apparently enjoys an enthusiastic welcoming by Crimeans themselves? Here, too, ideology prevails over stubborn fact. http://newcoldwar.org/the-moscow-times-reports-crimeans-overwhelmingly-upbeat-about-future/ Introduction by New Cold War.org editors-- The following article states that Crimea was "annexed" by Russia in March 2014. But it goes on to describe something which utterly contradicts the claim of "annexation", namely, an extremely high rate of satisfaction of Crimeans with their secession from Ukraine last year, a 93 per cent approval! This approval rate was reported in the recent survey published by the German polling firm GfK. The polling survey was commissioned by agencies which are extremely hostile to the 2014 secession, including an agency of the Canadian government. The Moscow Times writer says Crimeans are "overwhelmingly upbeat" about the secession. http://newcoldwar.org/survey-on-attitudes-of-the-crimea-people-to-the-events-of-2014/ The article does not explain that on March 16, 2014, the government of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, an elected and constitutional entity of Ukraine, organized a referendum in which a large majority of Crimeans voted to secede from Ukraine and join the Russian Federation. This is the "annexation" to which the article refers. Perhaps this, then, explains the seeming contradiction in the article...
