The progressive Socialist Party of Ukraine led by Natalie Vitrenko, of which
Pavel Gubarev was once a member, is, indeed, a small, pro-Russia party in
Ukraine. Like much of the political left in Ukraine, including the Communist
Party and, quite spectacularly, the political left which ended up ensnared in
the EuroMaidan movement, it has drifted to the political right.
The drift to the right of some of the political left in Ukraine has,
tragically, being mirrored internationally by those who refuse to recognize and
act upon NATO's growing military buildup in eastern Europe and its plans for
"long war" confrontation with Russia.
Pavel Gubarev? He wrote a good essay recently. For the rest of the
non-controversy surrounding him, I'm not paying particular attention. IF the
remarks recently published on his Facebook page are, indeed, his own, then he
is showing himself to be disoriented. The people on the political left in
Ukraine will, I'm sure, make that known as befits its importance.
I know many people these days who are disoriented. And it is very disconcerting
because this happens to include the most important issue emerging in world
politics--the rising threat of imperialist war and dismemberment against
Russia. The threats against Russia are one front of an imperialist offensive
which is also targeting Venezuela and Brazil and which lurks in the background
viz-a-viz Greece. It has already taken out governments in Egypt (2013) and
Ukraine (2014) with catastrophic consequences. So let's talk of things
important, not small controversies.
