Post-secondary students in Quebec have launched an anti-austerity, pro-environment strike movement. It began on March 23. Sixty thousand are on strike, and the numbers are growing. The students aim to draw trade unions into a broad, anti-austerity front. Yesterday, evening demonstrations of thousands in each of Montreal and Quebec City were attacked by police and many arrrests were made. An astounding 274 people were arrested by Quebec City police. The strike movement began with a large street march of more than 10,000 in Montreal on March 21.
