As I understand things - and someone correct me if I'm wrong - it was always pretty likely that if the KKE joined a coalition with Syriza, it would eventually face a choice between accepting harsh austerity measures, either imposed by the Troika or resulting from a Grexit, or rejecting them and bringing down the government.
