I find it interesting that the entire media discussion has worked furiously to make the issue about the Confederate flag rather than the police, the institutional constraints on the black community in the face of its qualitatively worsening condition in the U.S. Is it possible for the mainstream political culture to ever focus on the substance rather than the symbols nowadays?
