Fatih Akın was born and raised in Hamburg, Germany, from parents who had immigrated from Turkey. Sure, "in Akin's cinema, the lives of German Turks are a recurring theme, such as their struggles and their confusion about two different cultures", as the en.Wikipedia article on Akın says. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatih_Akin And he "has never denied his Turkish roots and even accepted the Cannes award in the name of Turkish cinema", but has got all his education including higher studies of cinema in Germany. And, as far as I know, all his films were released first in Germany (except at festivals) before being shown in other countries.
