The article is wrong about the 500 dead in Haiti:

"And Haiti, where it’s reported that 500 people are known to have died and 400
others injured?"

Your link to the Washington Post article says:

"In Haiti, where more than 500 were killed by Hurricane Matthew <https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/the_americas/a-month-after-hurricane-matthew-800000-haitians-urgently-need-food/2016/11/03/382cb2a6-9f74-11e6-8864-6f892cad0865_story.html?utm_term=.b91ec7f25b81> one year ago."

I think it's important not to provide misinformation that skews the reader's perceptions. And then to imply that the lack of coverage is somehow racist misses the larger point that a politics of class is responsible for the effects of climate change and the decisions on media reportage.
