In the midst of the discussion we are having about Palestine solidarity, I ‘d like to ask what various participants on this list are doing. Yesterday I was at the monthly vigil in downtown Nanaimo. As we were shutting down someone rolled down his window and told us we were wasting our time. He told that the people over there were crazy. This underlines for me a fundamental task and that is getting out basic information about Palestine and the founding of Israel. I can’t tell you the number of times that someone thought my Free Gaza banner meant that I was giving away something for free. Others may have thought we had a friend by that name in jail. I don’t blame people for not knowing. Gaza does not get the coverage it should. At the beginning of February, Prime Minister Trudeau came to Vancouver Island University for a “town hall.” Supported by our local group, I printed 300 copies of a leaflet addressing the case of Ahed Tamimi. We gave all those out and we could have given out many more. But as an old person not connected to the campus, I had no clue how many people would attend the event. It did lead to an invitation to speak to a campus group.
