Carrol was on Marxmail early on but unsubbed out of anger toward me. I can't even remember over what particularly. He was a U. of Illinois professor specializing in Milton studies. He was also a Maoist in the 1970s. Quite a personality, with a irrepressible tendency for vitriol. I was quite friendly with him 20 years ago but he baited me terribly over all sorts of stuff, from the Brenner thesis to Syria. In many ways, a tortured soul--even more so than me.
