I have this fossil, and it is like a geo-scope into the deep past, and into an alien intelligence.
A shallow, warm sea washing over Gondwana. An average marine temperature of 45 degrees Celsius. Nothing surviving that was not protected from solar radiation by the cover of water. Lifeless land, supercontinents of rock and abiotic dust gliding over the planet's surface. Air temperatures about 14 degrees above the modern average. Not a lick of ice anywhere. An alien planet to all purposes.
