On this day, 76 years ago, the Warsaw Ghetto uprising started. We should remember this event, partly because of the heroism of its actors but also because it shows the very best that human beings are capable of. Marek Edelman was one of the very few survivors of that uprising, and he later wrote a first person account of the conditions in the Warsaw Ghetto under the Nazis and of the uprising itself. One of the all-time great history books.
