Bill Gates was recently interviewed by Trevor Noah on his The Daily Show. As elsewhere, Gates was pictured as this kindly billionaire who is using his vast fortune to help solve world hunger and illness. In this time of a crisis driven by capitalist interaction with nature, Gates's role should be really clarified. What he's doing is helping promote industrial agriculture, and the commodification of agriculture knowledge. Meanwhile, he and the Gates Foundation are doing is further advancing the idea that there is a technical solution that can override the laws of nature, that rather than work with nature, modern capitalist technology can override its laws.
