Historically, fascism requires the destruction of any independent mass
organizations, such as unions, left parties, etc. It is delirious to
suggest that the U.S. rulers have any need--or even desire--to resort to
such an extreme measure. The current disruptions of bourgeois
politicians' phony baloney town meetings bears no resemblance to the
kind of assaults on public meetings that would take place under fascism,
or leading to it. Quite the contrary: these disruptions are child's play
and are only getting attention because Democrat politicians are so
unaccustomed to ANY reaction from the voters to their lies and
bullshitting. Few people usually show up at their meetings with
constituents. They are nothing more than a show to make people believe
they live in a democracy, when in truth public input is not wanted and
when it is given it is ignored. Moreover, this hoopla about protests by
the right at Democrat politicians' meetings on Our Savior's "health care
reform" proposal (which is nothing more than a capitulation to the
insurance industry and nowhere near the overhaul of the ripoff health
system that is needed) seems designed to make it appear that the
Democrat Party is under siege as it carries the banner of change. That
is utter horse shit. The trouble is, there aren't thousands of citizens
tarring and feathering the Democrat politicians at these public meetings
because of their sellout of the people to the corporations and insurance
industries.
Robinson is dreaming if she believes most Americans have lost faith
in the phony democracy in which they live. They still swallow the
patriotic garbage about the need to fight wars against whoever the enemy
of the moment happens to be. Give them a flag and they are happy to wave
it. That is a bigger threat to freedom than anything Robinson points to.
