http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/8392080.stm US private sector job cuts down for the eighth month US private sector job cuts narrowed in November for the eighth consecutive month, a survey has shown. Payrolls company ADP said 169,000 jobs were lost last month, which is 26,000 fewer than in October. The US services sector shed 81,000 jobs in November, up slightly on October, but fewer manufacturing jobs were lost. The figures come a day before President Barack Obama is to host a brainstorming meeting with business and union leaders on how to create jobs. He will hold the jobs forum at the White House on Thursday, which will also be attended by economists. Mr Obama's administration says it has saved or created more than one million jobs across the US with its $787bn (£473bn) jobs stimulus package, passed in February. Republicans have criticised the package, saying it has benefited the federal sector, and not the private sector. According to the latest US Labour Department figures, the unemployment rate in the US rose to 10.2% in October, which was its highest rate since April 1983. Since the recession began in December 2007, the number of unemployed has risen by 8.2 million, while the jobless rate has risen from 4.9%. ________________________________________________ Send list submissions to: Marxism@lists.econ.utah.edu Set your options at: http://lists.econ.utah.edu/mailman/options/marxism/archive%40mail-archive.com
