This is my sentiment as well but I'm reluctant to throw metaphorical stones at the anarchists. But some of the participants of this particular event were students and part of the 'anarchist' milieu leading the current wave of occupations. However, only 2 of those arrested were students the rest were not. This march and attack on the Chancellor's house was a direct result of the arrest of 64 students earlier that day. The organized socialist left on campus has done a bang up job organizing what the real story is: massive support by students for organize mass actions and strikes AND in defense of those that did occupation. The arrest of the 64 students was a very provocative act by the UC Administration to arrest these students at 5AM on the grounds that an all night rock concert was planned for later that night. This occupation was called a 'soft-occupation' and basically allowed by the Administration. They turned the hall under occupation into an "Open University" where students studied for their finals, forums were held, political discussions organized and had buy in from all sectors of the activist students. The doors were not locked or barricaded. The 'occupation' went on involving hundreds of students for over 4 days and nights. It was a festival of the oppressed. Thus the anger directed, correctly at the Administration and the UC Chancellor. This is the context with which the ultra-left lead this torch lit parade and trashed the Chancellor's house. Was it a provocation by the anarchists and other participants? Yes, absolutely and without a doubt. This is the California anarchist 'way': elitist, provocative and ultra-left at every level. And they need to be politically confronted. But...they didn't start this, the university did and it's they who need to be condemned for the arrests, for raising student fees 30% and trying to break unions on campus.
