I think there is little dispute that the CP, after years of factional 
destruction, was down to 7000 or so members. What I disputed was the 
Wiki entry that quotes "60,000" members at its founding, which I found 
astounding. But then the number did have to come *down* from some higher 
number.

Tim Davenport, who runs the Early American Marxism archive and is quite 
authority on this, participates in writing and correcting much of the 
documented facts about US Marxism and socialism on Wiki. He has the 
documents and, he has much of this on the archive. So my only issue is 
with this seemingly very large number in 1919.

Another issue is of course is the 1934-1936 period of CP growth which is 
interesting to chart, if the numbers are available, based on the rise of 
the level of the class struggle at this time.
