There have been two major items featuring Americans here on the media.  The
first of these was the orphans being taken to the States.  This was
presented as a straight forward wonderful act of mercy a la Madonna in
Africa.  Quite sickening actually.

The second involved US troops intervening to "protect an aid truck". And
that's about it.

Earlier on there was an item about a British rescue team being turned back
from Port au Prince, but they did not tell us who turned them back.

Australia is a truly craven country in terms of its media representations of
America, so if that's the best the Aussie, Aussie, Aussies can come up with
then the US "aid" effort is not achieving much in humanitarian terms.
