And I'm sure Sarah Palin, or maybe Sarah Palin's daughter, could say it's her, or their story, too-- and that's the point; it isn't their story; it isn't even the story it pretends to be-- it's a story that achieves commercial success based on its ability to conform to, resonate with, succor an ideology. Yes child abuse happens; yes sexual abuse happens. What is disingenuousness is making it a commerical enterprise out of the tale that "universalizes" an experience in order to deny the necessary reproduction of the conditions of abuse in the actual commerce of society. The stereotypes serve a commercial purpose-- they reinforce things they TINA aspect of things as they are. No, this is not an argument for proletkult or socialist realism-- although it is an argument for dramatic realism. My point is that this movie is a commercial venture-- no different than Angelina Jolie, or Madonna, adopting poor children from Africa or Latin American, no different than missionaries kidnipping children in Haiti and calling it a "rescue." It's the same old same old. ----- Original Message ----- From: <moteck1...@aol.com> ________________________________________________ Send list submissions to: Marxism@lists.econ.utah.edu Set your options at: http://lists.econ.utah.edu/mailman/options/marxism/archive%40mail-archive.com
