Rule #1: YOU MUST clip all extraneous text when replying to a message.

I can't imagine anything more illogical than an Arab-American
supporting U.S. foreign policy and enlisting in the U.S. armed
forces. But there are hundreds of Arab-Americans in military service
as we know. If the top brass called for their expulsion from the
military would we stand up against such blatant discrimination? Of
course we would! That does not mean we agree with the choice they are
making. Here in New Jersey, we are appealing to the Arab immigrant
community in Paterson, Passaic, Clifton, and other cities and towns
to come out into the streets in opposition to the wars in Iraq and
Afghanistan, and our counter-recruitment efforts are continuing to
appeal to young people not to enlist. But should an Arab immigrant
disagree with us, as he or she has a right to do, I, for one, would
never in a million years support any effort to exclude him or her
from the military.

The same rules apply to homosexuals. If there are Arab-Americans who
wish to enlist in the armed forces, of course there will be
homosexuals who do. Being gay does not in and of itself make one
radical or opposed to imperialism. I wish it did. One would think
that being an Arab should, but even then it does not.

The only answer is to work more effectively to organize the antiwar
movement, including counter-recruitment. That is the way to convince
working-class youth (especially African-American and Latino youth),
Arabs and other immigrants, and gay people of both genders not to
enlist in the armed forces.
