I agree with most of what you're saying, Tom.

However, jadedness has nothing to do with it.  Either an argument is
fair or it's not.  Personalities and motives are distractions.
Ducking issues, misrepresenting positions, etc. accomplish nothing
because it fails to advance our collective understanding...or the
potential for our collective understanding.

Moreover, I would suggest that a strategy based on a singular
focus--and I'm an unrepentent Camejoist on electoral politics--is
probably (though perhaps not certainly) misplaced.  It seems to me to
be the shadow of the pointless single socialist party delusion.  The
radicalization of a very complex working class in an extraordinarily
large and diverse civilization is going to take many forms, many of
which will be quite as legitimate as the other....

The role of Marxists is to encourage these different currents,
particularly those in which we're involved directly, to cultivate a
left-wing and to open whatever channels of communication and
cooperation we can among the most radical participants in them....

The last place we should be is holed up in an organization preoccupied
with drumming the members out to regular forums and preaching to the
choir.
