Update on the Chinese strike wave that is spreading in auto and beyond (very inspiring): http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/11/business/global/11strike.html?hp=&pagewanted=all Question: what is the Chinese government's attitude toward all this? I read somewhere (I don't remember where) that it may be quietly green-lighting the strikes as a backdoor means to increase domestic buying power. Has anyone heard anything similar? It's not unheard of -- FDR had a similar rationale for supporting US unions. But I would assume that the Chinese government would be frightened over the prospect of the emergence of a mass, militant, independent worker revolt. ________________________________________________ Send list submissions to: [email protected] Set your options at: http://lists.econ.utah.edu/mailman/options/marxism/archive%40mail-archive.com
