No. I used the term "Stalinist" (and "Mao-oid") to refer to a /method/.
That method is one of a kind of Manicheanism, whereby anyone or any
movement opposing the imperialist or capitalist system is good, no
matter how big its crimes. This borders on religion, and in the case of
those leftists, and homosexuals, who opposed the crimes of the Cuban
regime against same-sex love, instead of criticizing the lack of
humanity, and even the bigotry, of the official policy of harassment,
persecution, and discriminination against homosexuals, it supported the
official barbarism.
I would be the last to say that Trotskyists are more moral or
necessarily better communists than Stalinists are, but on this issue,
they were better.
It is pointless to try to whitewash the crimes of Stalinism by
semantic reductionism. I feel that, as a formerly Trotskyist homosexual
who has pointed equally to the heterosupremacist and distorted positions
of some Trotskyists, I am entitled to draw this distinction.
Just go back to Stalin's persecution of homosexuals in the 1930s,
when homosexuality was dubbed "the fascist perversion" by oinkers like
Maxim Gorky and Stalin, and you have all the evidence you need to see
that this is not a question of mere terminology. Get real.
