Don't know about Switzerland, but an issue of the Coast Seaman in the late
thirties has a headline: "Daily Worker Brought to Boot" about Trotsky
bringing a suit against the Daily Worker. The late Jim Kiernan, once a leading
CP member in the Marine Cooks and Stewards showed it to me in the Industrial
Relations Library at the University of California and it should be
available. Kiernan had been through it all: CP, SWP, Cochran and then ended as
a
follower of CLR. It wasn't anything that had surprised him, nor should itd
surprise anyone here. Trotsky also sued L'Humanite for slander. Not to
mention using the bourgeois courts to help get custody of his grandson, didn't
he?

Refusing to resort to the "bourgeois courts" is something of a fetish on
the left. But it is not necessarily a part of socialist tradition.
