Yeah, what else is new? This is part of a mentality on both the right and the far left of bashing essentially the "petty bourgoisie" as the province of the liberals and trendy leftists, not an accurate jibe at all. Remember back in the 30s petty bourgois was a term and political epithet more often directed with reactionaries and fascists? when the Nazis were at one point described as a petty bourgois movement etc (Goebbels in his only attempt at a factional challenge to Hitler, denounced him as "petty bourgois"). And that never really changed if you look at the fact that since 80s upper middle income people from the affluent suburbs and ex-urbs have been a driving force of the right wing as much or more so as they have of liberalism. Even the evangelicals of the mega churches don't tend to be redneck white trash but are based in rich right wing suburbs in S. Cal and elsewhere. Ditto for the Tea Party, described by a guest on Keith Olberman as angry affluent white guys in golf carts, consistent with which Rand Paul had his primary victory party at an exclusive country club.
