Dear friends,

We are inviting you for *an informal discussion with Com. Ninu Chapagain on
the literary-cultural-political scenario of Nepal*. Ninu has been holding
important responsibilities in the political movement of Nepal, and he is one
of the most prominent figures of Nepal's literary and cultural movement as
well.

One of Nepal’s senior-most Marxist literary critics, Ninu Chapagain has
served at different times as Treasurer, General Secretary and President of
the Progressive Writers’ Association, an organisation that provides a common
platform for anti-imperialist writers and critics. He has also served as
President of both the Progressive Cultural Association and Indreni Cultural
Society. Author of many books and articles, he is also editor of Vedana, a
quarterly journal of criticism and original progressive literature, adviser
to Jana Ekta, a weekly newspaper, and other left publications.

Active in Nepal’s communist movement for nearly forty years, Ninu Chapagain
has also held a variety of senior party posts. A former General Secretary of
United People’s Front (1991-93), he is currently a member of the Politburo
of the Unified Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) and heads the cultural
department of the party.
Nepali society is in the process of a radical transformation and all of us
have been keenly watching the resultant political-social-cultural turmoil.
The irony is that most of the time we have to depend on secondary and
tertiary sources for information about Nepal. We believe we can have an
interesting and fruitful discussion with Ninu on a range of subjects and
questions about Nepalese revolution, politics, literature and culture.
Please do come.

Revolutionary Salute,

Sandeep
