Following please find the press statement made by the Vice President of our
Party, Memet Kilincaslan, regarding the situation in the F Type cells and
the inmates who have reached the 182. day in the death fast started against
the establishment of F Type prisons along with other political demands such
as the abolishment of State Security Courts (DGM):

Minister for Justice Should Keep His Promise.
Deaths Must Be Stopped!

As a result of the government's irresponsible and aggressive attitude,
beginning with the attitude of the Minister for Justice, Hikmet Sami Turk;
every day one or a few of the inmates on the death fast are losing their
lives. Hikmet Sami Turk, making statements to the public with an attitude
that is completely devoid of any humane or conscientious sensitivity, is
behaving like a dictator who has 'forgotten' the promises he, himself has
made to the public rather than acting with an understanding that aims to
solve the problem by undertaking the necessary steps.
He is trying to conceal his own responsibility by condemning the same people
whose lives and right to live are meant to be under his responsibility. The
same Hikmet Sami Turk is insisting on his aggressive attitude that aimed to
legitimize the F Type prisons by stating, "the problem is over; the state
dominates over everything in the prisons", following the massacre of tens of
political prisoners as a result of the operations directed at the prisons on
19 December 2000.
The truth is that neither the operations directed at the prisons nor the,
"almighty is the state" attitude has solved the problems. What's more, this
attitude has brought serious problems that has left grave marks on the
public conscience. The despot statesman attitude and the massacres has
incited the new deaths of dozens of inmates and has caused dozens of others
to become physically and/or mentally disabled. As long as they continue in
this manner, the Minister for Justice and the government shall 'make history
' as the "government of death" along with all their other, labourer and
people hostile characteristics.
The Minister for Justice, Turk, must keep the promises he has made in
relation to, isolation cells not being used, the areas of common use being
in the service of the inmates, the F Type cells being restructured on a
humane basis according to the agreement between the Bars, Doctors' Union of
Turkey (TTB), Union of Architects' and Engineers' Associations of
Turkey(TMMOB) and the Human Rights Commission of the Parliament and the
necessary legal arrangements being materialized.
Every single day that passes without taking a concrete step along the
direction of solving the problem means a new crime committed in the face of
the 'right to life'.
As long as Hikmet Sami Turk continues to insist on his attitude, he will
make the history books as a minister that hasn't kept his word and has
dragged the people whose lives were under his responsibility to death... no
matter how much he has 'Minister of Justice' written in front of his name.
