Don Harris was a wonderful economics professor at Wisconsin (in fact, Annie and I had him, Shamyla (sp?) and little Kamala to dinner in 1968 or 69) when I was a graduate student. I had numerous fruitful conversations with him --- he is a brilliant Mathematical economist AND a Marxist --- which is probably why Stanford lured him away from Wisconsin
IN 1969 when Black Students at Wisconsin went on strike to try and get a full black studies program instituted, Don was the spokesman for the black faculty at the University (a small number to be sure) speaking forcefully about the University's need to confront the"racism at its very core" (Don's words) in full support of the students' demands. I haven't seen him for years but I know he has had a fabulous career --- It is a terrible shame that the divorce was so contested that there could not have been a continued "joint" parenting for Kamal and her sister --- I imagine Don had a serious hole in his life because of that. One thing though -- I don't think we should dismiss the influence BOTH Don and Shamyla (again, sorry I don't remember the spelling) had --- despite the fact that Kamala Harris wants to minimize her father's influence -- In fact, I wonder if the Trumpies will seize on this NY Times article to accuse Kamal of being a CLONE of her father!!
