I can see our positions differ, and inevitably there is subjectivism in such analyses.
In answer to your questions, I wish I could say. I admit to being retired for a few years. So any answer regarding BLM would be speculative. I have one friend who is more conservative than I who acknowledges the racist brutality of the police in spite of maybe voting for the orange guy, simply because he fears the kinder/gentler version will take us to war. Not my position, but not entirely irrational, either. Crime has always been with us, and I don't think most of us react irrationally to it. I suspect those in the hinterlands who arm themselves against an Antifa invasion are far more of a minority than the media would have us think. After all, such stories sell newspapers, or electronic versions of the same. On the other hand, it seems everyone is strapping up. A little scary, for sure; but again, not entirely irrational. I suspect Sonje lives in a country where social harmony prevails more than it does here, at least for the traditional inhabitants of that country. Recent immigrants might have an alternate view. I suppose one reservation I have lately (yes, I'm still involved to a point) is that I hear the same rejectionism of the other's view from too many protestors. Race and class are always interwoven in the U.S., perhaps more so than in any major country, with the possible exception of South Africa and Brazil. "Major", remember. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
