A couple of points:

1)Trump isn't a fascist but seems to believe he can use fascism if he finds it
convenient.  IMO, he represents a new version of the old radical individualist
right-wing philosophy, one that opposes not only "government" in the
half-serious way of "conservatives" from decades past, but also governance
itself.  That is, the ensemble of functions carried out by governments to
further the "general welfare" etc. that have traditionally been considered more
or less politically neutral--the Postal Service, NIH, the CDC, probably also
NIST, etc.  This of course is not a  completely new theme, but it is new, IMO,
with Trump, insofar as it represents the principal focus of a ruling ideology.

2) AFAIK there are two ways actual fascism can arise from Trumpism:
- Trump succeeds in becoming ruler-by-decree.  He will be laughably weak in
this role. And this IMO will almost certainly result in his overthrow by some
sort of coup, possibly a restore-the constitution coup, a plain old
Bonapartist-style coup, or an actual fascist coup.
- Biden is elected and fails to restore "normalcy" as promised.  He serves one
term and Harris is defeated by the likes of Tucker Carlson or some other actual
fascist demagogue who will put forward a dictatorial program of regimented
national renewal complete with uniformed kinder corps and all the trappings.

I don't believe that fascism as such is necessarily the scariest thing in the
room today--there's a whole range of rotten alternatives that seem likelier to
me, all of which would lead to paralysis in the face of environmental disaster
and accelerating social inequality. We could easily wind up in Hell without
ever passing Hitler's reviewing stand or learning some asinine salute.
