Today Lassalle is one of the most marginalized and vilified of the
classic German social-democrats. His most essential works have never
been translated or spread outside of Germany and his political career is
mostly remembered for his secret dealings with Bismarck and the
critiques Marx wrote against him and his followers. At the same time, he
was one of the most celebrated figures in the socialist workers’
movement during the late 19th century and early 20th century. From
Russia to Sweden to Germany he was still a notable influence long after
his passing.
