This was a fascinating article. What isĀ mentioned in one sentence and not expanded upon, is the reason why nat. gas has expanded so much into the energy market in Western Europe. That is "It has long been seen as the logical bridge in the long transition from hydrocarbons to renewable energy." Not a bridge but the future it appears from the very rapid expansion of nat. gas turbine generators in Germany, France, Italy and Spain. As there exists no economical way to store any surplus electricity generated by solar and wind (mostly the latter at night) nat. gas is here to stay. The Green New Deal in Europe rests on a large, expanding cushion of nat. gas.
