When I was at Yale and part of the Marxist reading group there, David Graeber
was a frequent attendee. He argued with us ferociously, but always in a very
friendly way. And he was one of a tiny handful of faculty at the university who
consistently and publicly and bodily supported the unions and the grad student
unionization campaign there through thick and thin. Along with his more
well-known activism in the wider world, it ultimately cost him his job at Yale.
It was thus gratifying to see him go on to much bigger and better things.
