Having studied the topic thoroughly for a decade, the undeniable reality is that the accumulative processes necessary for the constitution of the American capitalist system were dependent upon the racialized slavery system.
In the Grundrisse , which was only published in 1939 in Moscow and in English in 1973 by Vintage, has a direct mention of American slavery as a form of capitalism, throwing to the wind the claim by Eugene Genovese, et. al. that the South was a feudal economy. "The fact that we now not only call the plantation owners in America capitalists, but that they - *are* - capitalists, is based on their existence as anomalies within a world market based on free labour."
