Thanks Andrew and especially you Ken for continued study of this. I think
these are very important yet little known developments in the socialist
movement. I hope to find time and opportunity to learn more and more
deeply. (Obviously Joseph Green has belittled this into a petty hobby horse
for his unfounded preoccupation with attacking Trotsky.)

The Comintern lost much support, especially in Black and African
communities, for its turn to the popular front - backing off from criticism
of Britain, France, Italy and the U.S. and their colonial empires. A
scandal developed over the Soviet Union's friendly relationship with the
Mussolini government as Italy invaded Ethiopia.

George Padmore (Malcolm Nurse) who was the initial head of the Profintern's
Negro Bureau (est. 1929) and the founding leader of the Comintern-backed
International Trade Union Committee for Negro Workers (est. 1930; for which
he wrote "The Life and Struggle of Negro Toilers", 1931) was upset as he
saw the turn to the popular front developing. Padmore ceased his
leadership work for the ITUCNW in latter 1933 and was expelled from the
Comintern in February 1934.

In London in 1934 Padmore began to work with his childhood friend from
Trinidad, C.L.R. James, who had already developed strong anti-Stalinist
views. They are well-known for their continuing leadership in
anti-colonial, anti-imperialist and Pan African political work.
