The Nation Magazine's John Nichols writes a book extolling Henry Wallace but not the idea of forming a new left party like the Progressive Party. Wallace got clobbered in 1948 but the idea of a 3rd party remained viable. Nichols believes that George McGovern was the reincarnation of Wallace but fails to see the futility of using the DP as an instrument of radical change. Nichols was also an ardent Sandernista. Nothing significant will change until there is a party on the left that can take a stand against capitalist malfeasance. Every time there is an embryo of such a possibility, like Nader's run as a Green in 2000, his pals at The Nation like Eric Alterman abort it.
