The Dems and GOP collectively have no real differences regarding agriculture
and the way it is conducted. The only way to deal with this is a plan to
encourage and deploy regenerative agricultural methods. Part of this, of
course, would be both a goal and result of ending Concentrated Animal Feeding
Operations (CAFO) or "feedlots" in the vernacular. It would, naturally,
increase the price of animal protein products but the costs would actually be
cheaper in the long run for the farmer. Part of any serious regenerative
agricultural initiative would mean diversifying farming away from mono-crop
industry to an integrated and diversified localized ag output...where rotating
cattle (and other ruminants) as part of the crop rotation would provide the
necessary nitrogen, urea, and carbon inputs into the soil as well as weed
control. It can be done. It is, however, less profitable than Big Ag would
like. Oddly, perhaps, is that Regenerative Agriculture is growing in popularity
among Red state farmers.
