I just went back and read Nwanevu's original article at TNR that's linked here. He seems to ignore how the Democratic Party establishment ,the DWS/Clinton cabal in 2016 ,and Obama in 2020 plotted against Sanders to cheat him out of the nomination. After the name recognition Bernie built up in 2016, he could have run for president in 2020, as either a third party candidate ,or an independent, but Bernie was either too cowardly, or too indebted to a Democratic Party that stabbed him in the back too many times. Because of what I had read in both Counterpunch, and Black Agenda Report, in 2015,and 2016, I never supported Sanders ,but I do give the man credit for being a catalyst to awaken conciousness of the failures of American captalism. Even if he was a blatant imperialist, who avoided all discussions of foreign policy. That said, for all the good Bernie may have done, his loyalty to the Democrats also caused irrepairable damage to the left, that will take years to undo.
The last Democrat I ever supported for President was Jesse Jackson, in 1988. As so many have pointed out, the Democrats have not really been aparty of the left ,since at least the days of LBJ, and the Great Society ,and back then their claim to being a left wing party was tenuous at best.
