There are ways in which parents' objections today echo those of the parents of 
the 60s, which is as far back as I can go for a direct reference. Kids are 
always breaking the boundaries of fashion. In the time before the quarantine, I 
saw more and more teenagers (mostly boys) dressing either in girls' clothes, or 
androgynously. It's a fad. In five years, it will be something else.

At the same time, there are people who profit greatly from these fads. In the 
past, it was fashion designers and their media outlets. A quick glance at Teen 
Vogue will show articles that promote the advertising and advertising that 
promotes the articles. There's plenty of money to be made.

With this fad, the medical establishment is cashing in too. Pharmaceutical 
companies, surgeons, insurance companies… . Cultural critiques are of limited 
usefulness. A class analysis is more important. I have yet to see that. (It may 
be out there, I just haven't seen it.)
