Jairus Banaji's A brief history of commercial capitalism is one of the most insightful books I've read in 2020. But while I did learn a lot about the putting-out system and the role of merchants in manufacturing, in the end I was left disappointed. I couldn't quite understand when and where the capitalist mode of production actually started according to Banaji. At first I thought I just had missed it and I should re-read the book, then I stumbled upon this review and I saw the reviewer felt the same way I did. Did someone else read the book? What are your thoughts? By the way, here's also Louis' review ( https://www.counterpunch.org/2020/11/06/the-origins-of-commercial-capitalism/ ) of the book. P.S.
