Louis is right -- My mother read that book [WE THE PEOPLE by Huberman] aloud to me when I was 11 or 12 --- and there are still elements of it (particularly the misuse of the 14th amendment to refer to CORPORATIONS as people to be protected from State Regulatiions --- as well as the story of the 1894 Pullman Strike) that stayed with me to this day ---
However -- I wonder if the book does justice to the genocide of the Native peoples who were here when the Europeans arrived ....Also, I remember it ends right around the time the US got into WW II with a rather silly explanation of how the Japanese came to attack Pearl Harbor ... Gotta get another copy --- > https://monthlyreview.org/product/we_the_people/ > > In combining the art of a fiction writer with the skill of a historian, > Mr. Huberman has provided in this book a history of the American people > that can be read and understood by any intelligent child above the age of > ten … There is not a dull page in the book … graphic and gripping from > beginning to end … An authentic contribution to historical literature. > > —*The Nation* > _._, > > -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
