Thank you Andrew, I totally agree --- I know not everyone reads everything
--- but this one was PARTICULARLY good ...

One thing not developed in the article is that for much of the 19th and
20th century -- both the POLITICAL CLASS and the "civil service" in the
British Empire was FULL of people who had studied CLASSICS --- (usually at
Balliol College, Oxford!) --- Classics of course is the STORY of empires
....
