The DSA has been masturbating for the last 5 years about the idea that “they got members elected to the American Congress.” But that isn’t actually how it works. DSA didn’t put these people into their positions, THEIR CONSTITUENTS DID! AOC was elected by residents of her district and only a very small minority of those voters are in DSA. If AOC doesn’t Force the Vote on Medicare for All, a bunch of DSA chapters can pass all the motions and issue all the press releases they want but she doesn’t have to give them a lick of attention because they are not going to re-elect her. Her constituents have interests and concerns that might be extremely different than what DSA holds as an agenda. That demonstrates a complete lack of accountability or mechanism for recall if AOC were to break significantly with DSA platform.
